![]() The top Platinum trim comes with a dual-pane moonroof, which adds to the spacious feeling of the already large interior. It also has heated first and second-row seats, making it ideal for cold weather family hauling. The Platinum leather is upgraded and feels soft to the touch. The lower-level S and SV trims have cloths seats, but the SL and Platinum add leather, which give the cabin a more upscale feel. That’s a small complaint, though, because the seats are otherwise very well padded and comfortable. The front seats are power-adjustable in most trims, but lack a height adjustment. Every Pathfinder comes with a rear sonar system and a rear-door alerts designed to remind drivers of kids or items left in the back seat. Though standard safety tech isn’t added without an upgrade to the SV trim, the package is still generous with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic high beams and rear cross traffic alert. The native NissanConnect infotainment platform is clunky and requires too much attention to operate. Though the 8-inch screen is modern, the lack of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is a huge downfall. ![]() For example, all trims get a sizable 8-inch touchscreen, a rearview monitor, easy access to the third row thanks to a 60/40-splitting second row and a 50/50 split fold-flat reclining bench seat in the third row. The theme of comfort over precision continues inside with a usable interior that brings in clever touches to make its use as a daily driver more tolerable. Towing numbers also are strong, landing at 6,000 pounds, which is more than most of the Pathfinder’s main competition. The upside is a quiet and refined ride on long road trips (and the third row is great for spacing out the kids). The suspension that keeps things so smooth and bump-free on the highway allows for a lot of lean on curvy roads. NissanĬomfort, in the Pathfinder at least, comes at the expense of handling. Though it’s meant to be more adventurous off road, it’s more of an appearance package. The Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition that debuted for the 2019 model year carried over for the 2020 model year. In the Pathfinder, the CVT does a good job at handling the V6’s power delivery and keeping the drivetrain feeling smooth and somewhat refined. Continuously variable transmissions are hit or miss, mostly causing the engine to drone away endlessly, but Nissan’s done a good job over the years at improving its transmission designs. Getting the Pathfinder moving requires a strong jab of the throttle, and even then it’s hardly quick. ![]() ![]() ![]() The engine is generous on paper, but less impressive in real life. Fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg in city driving, 27 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg combined (4WD vehicles lag by 1mpg in each category). The Pathfinder can also be configured with front- or four-wheel drive. NissanĪll variants are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to a continuously variable transmission that delivers 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. The Nissan Pathfinder has off-road heritage, but the newest iteration is more comfortable on pavement and can seat up to seven passengers. A limited Rock Creek Edition that adds more rugged styling and exclusive badging is available on the SL and SV trims. The Pathfinder comes in four trims: the base S, SV, the premium SL and pricey Platinum. Though its nameplate used to be synonymous with capability, its newest iteration is more of a people hauler. The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, now in its fourth generation, competes well enough among its midsize utility vehicle peers but lacks some of the off-road talent that adventure-minded families have come to expect from the three-row SUV segment. ![]()
